Chosen with care and placed thoughtfully, vines are the workhorses and problem solvers of landscaping. Although often banished to the southern suburban mailbox, vines are wonderfully versatile plants. Needing just a half-square foot of earth for their roots, they can fit into spaces too small to accommodate shrubs, yet they are also capable of covering large areas. Below is a listing of vines that perform well in Zone 8.

Exposure: Full Sun or Part Shade

Bloom Time: Early to Mid- Spring
Water: Low
Features: Clusters of bright yellow flowers are produced in abundance in spring. Very fast growing and dependable evergreen vine. Grow on trellises, arbors, fences, posts, mailbox, and other structures.
Companions: Other early to mid Spring flowering shrubs or perennials.

Bloom Color: Assorted - Many varieties available
Bloom Time: Summer - Fall
Water: Low once established
Features: These beautiful flowering vines are great for growing on trellises, mailboxes, fences, arbors, posts, and other structures. The foliage likes it hot and sunny. The root systems actually prefer some shade. Plant low shrubs or other plants around root systems to shade.
Companions: Low growing shrubs or perennials.

Exposure: Full Sun or Partial Shade
Bloom Color: White - Highly Fragrant
Bloom Time: Late Spring thru mid Summer
Water: Low once established
Features: Fast growing, evergreen vine with attractive foliage and an abundance of highly fragrant, long-lasting flowers produced thru Spring and into Summer!
Companions: Plant near sitting areas or windows so fragrance can be enjoyed!

Exposure: Full Sun or Partial Shade
Water: Low once established
Features: A great evergreen clinging vine useful to cover unsightly surfaces or to soften architecture. We've seen it climb over 8' in one season. Also works well as a groundcover or in indoor or outdoor container plantings.
Companions: Use alone to climb walls or as a cascading accent in pots.

Bloom Time: Off and on through the warm season
Water: Low once established
Features: An abundance of dangling clusters of red trumpet-shaped flowers are a hummingbird magnet!
Companions: Combine with other hummingbird attractors.

Exposure: Full Sun or Partial Shade
Bloom Color: Salmon-Red
Bloom Time: July thru Sept.
Water: Low once established
Features: Outstanding, large trumpet flowers produced from July thru Fall are a hummingbird magnet! Grows fast on fences, arbors, poles, and other sructures. A Wilson Bros. Favorite!!
Companions: Other plants that attract hummingbirds. Summer and Fall blooming perennials.

Bloom Time: April & July
Water: Low once established
Features: A striking selection of native wisteria that will bloom from the first year on with full flower heads! Blooms in April, hence avoiding frost, and again in June or July! A Wilson Bros. Favorite.
Companions: Plant on structures in sunny areas or with partial shade.
