Fast Growing Shrub Listing

Below is a listing of fast growing shrubs that perform well in Zone 8. Fast growing shrubs are great for creating quick screens or hedges. If you plant them in foundation plantings make sure to place them where they can grow to their natural height and width without taking over or obstructing the view of the home. Trimming back shrubs that are planted in the wrong place can become a regular nuisance.

Companions: Dwarf Yaupon, Junipers, Crimson Pigmy Barberry, Soft Touch Holly, Cotoneaster,Gold Mound Spirea, and other small leaved shrubs.

Features: The weeping habit of this yaupon adds plenty of personality to to the landscape. Let it weep to the ground or limb it up as a tree form. Excellent corner plant, screen, or tree-form specimen. Lots of red berries in winter!

Features: The best butterfly magnet we know of!! Literally covered with tri-color flowers from late Spring to frost! The hardiest of Lantanas. Give this one room to grow. A must in every landscape and a Wilson Bros. Favorite. Totally drought tolerant and pest free. DO NOT PRUNE IN FALL!!
Companions: Other Lantanas, Verbenas, Setcresia (PurpleHearts), Sedums, and many other perennials. Junipers, Loropetalums, Yucca, Barberries, Hollies and many many more.

Features: Deep purple-red foliage contrasts wonderfully with the fringe-like fuschia-pink flowers in Spring and Fall. An excellent foundation or corner plant. Makes a nice low maintenance hedge or tree-form specimen too. 'Ruby', one of the low growing varieties makes an excellent substitute foe Azaleas in full sun areas.
