Planting In Containers

Planting in containers is a great option for those with limited space or time. Containers are also great design tools for indoors and out. Containers can be used in regular gardens as accents. They are great for apartments, rental houses, balconies and patios. below are some basic instructions for planting in containers.
STEP 1 - Put a 1-2" layer of gravel in bottom of pot for improved drainage.

STEP 2 - Fill container to a level 1/2" below top rim with a lightweight professional potting mix that will hold moisture evenly. Do not use cheap grade potting soil. Tamp lightly and refill to same level.

Fertilize container plants every two weeks with a water soluble fertilizer such as Miracle Gro, or one time from the start with slow-release Osmocote.
STEP 3 - Remove plants from the pots they are in and loosen feeder roots.
STEP 4 - Remove some potting mix from container and place plant with the top of the root ball level with the soil in the container.

STEP 5 - Apply a 1/2" layer of mulch or spaghnum moss to soil surface.
